Basic Guidelines (Excerpts from Contemporary Western Artists) |
3. Buy The Best Work
If you ask the art expert what to buy, he will tell you to stick to quality, quality, quality. That is the third key, but unfortunately, the expert seldom explains what quality is. In buying Western art, quality means buying the best. There are a lot of bests that are involved, including the highest priced best, the best at the time you want to buy, the objective best, the expert best, the best by test, the artistic best, and so on but, what you should be looking for is your personal best.
Within your budget, you have to weigh all of these other bests to pick the one piece that most suits your collecting pattern. "Best" is singular. Buy the one best piece that is available, rather than a group of pieces for the same price. Put all your eggs into the one best basket.
